Harleyford History

The grounds and parkland of the beautiful Harleyford Estate have graced the banks of the river Thames for centuries.

Manor House At the heart of the Estate stands Harleyford Manor – A splendid red brick Georgian House, originally designed by the architect Sir Robert Taylor in the late 1740s. The Manor has been lovingly restored to award-winning standards by the Folley family in more recent years.

As the former home of Baronet Sir William Clayton and his heirs, the Manor has hosted many distinguished visitors.

MonumentThese include Emperor Napoleon III of France and former British Prime Minister Disraeli , as well as the famous author Kenneth Grahame.

Steeped in history, the Estate is a haven of peace and tranquillity set amidst the splendour of the West Chilterns.

The gardens, parkland and grounds are characterised by a wealth of individual features, including many specimen trees, a three-acre Walled Garden, an ice house, and a restored old Georgian Temple. There is even a secluded grotto which has been faithfully preserved at the western end of the Estate.
